MANILA, Philippines–If the presidential elections were held last June, Vice President Jejomar Binay would have won by a landslide, the Pulse Asia said.

Pulse Asia’s latest poll, conducted June 24 to July 2, said 41 percent nationwide favored Binay among other personalities being floated for the position.

Meanwhile, Senator Francis “Chiz” Escudero, who got the fourth-highest votes among senators in 2013, trailed behind with seven percent.

He was tied with Interior Secretary Manuel “Mar” Roxas and Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago.

At 7th and 8th places were Senators Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. and Alan Peter Cayetano with five percent each.

With two percent of the votes was Senator Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr.

On the other hand, receiving one percent each were Senate President Franklin “Frank” Drilon and Richard “Dick” Gordon.

For the vice presidential race, in which Binay was not included, Poe led with 26 percent, followed by Escudero with 22 percent.

At third to 10th places were Cayetano (14 percent), Marcos (eight percent), Senator Antonio Trillanes IV (six percent), Senator Jose “Jinggoy” Estrada (five percent), Drilon (five percent), Batangas Governor Vilma Santos-Recto (four percent), Revilla (four percent), and Camarines Sur Representative Leni Robredo (one percent).

The survey was conducted among 1,200 respondents and has a ± three percent margin of error.

Among the prevailing issues at the time of the poll were the filing of plunder charges against lawmakers involved in the pork barrel scam and the Supreme Court declaring parts of the Disbursement Acceleration Program (DAP) unconstitutional.
