MANILA, Philippines – At least 94 people died from the onslaught of typhoon “Glenda” (international name: “Rammasun”), the latest National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) report said.
Of the number, 67 came from Region IV-A (Calabarzon region). The badly hit province of Quezon recorded at least 26 deaths, many of which were caused by falling trees, walls and roof.
Two died in Brgy. Luctob, Macalelon after the wall of the evacuation center they were staying in collapsed.
Death toll in Laguna was at 17, Batangas at 13, Cavite at eight and Rizal at three as of 6 a.m. July 20.
Other regions with reported deaths were the National Capital Region, Region III, Region IV-B, Region V, Region VI, and Region VIII.
Meanwhile, there are still six people missing, three from Lipa City, two fishermen from Northern Samar and one from Marinduque.
The number of injured people had also risen to 317. Many of them were hit by debris.
Glenda, which brought strong winds that caused massive power outages, affected at least 1.6 million people. Half-a-million people were displaced and had to temporarily seek shelter in 1,264 evacuation centers.
