MANILA, Philippines – Even senators were not spared by the wrath of Typhoon “Glenda” (international name: Rammasun) as some of them were hit by brownouts Wednesday.
Senators Serge Osmeña, Loren Legarda and Grace Poe were among the millions of Filipinos who experienced power outages at the height of the typhoon.
Osmeña said they had no electricity and cable signals Wednesday though power was restored in the evening.
“We still have no TV today,” he said in a text message on Thursday.
Since he could not still watch television, Osmeña said he just spent his time doing what he likes most: reading.
“I like to read – news, business journals, non-fiction, classics, thrillers,” he said.
While they also had no electricity during the typhoon, Legarda said this did not bother her since she said she does not use air-con anyway.
“Brownout so ok lang because I never watch TV and I do not use air-con so sanay ako na no power (It was brownout, but it was ok because I never watch TV and I do not use air-con so I am used to having no power),” she said in a separate text message.
“I just worked on my papers and monitored my staff via cellphone. I monitored news via radio. Today, I’m cleaning up all fallen trees and branches as chief gardener. I am also planning feeding missions for affected communities in NCR and Regions 3 and 4a,” she said.
Legarda said they were also cleaning up canals and recycling fallen trees.
Poe, in another text message, said they also experienced brownouts from 6 a.m. until 5 p.m. Wednesday.
