MANILA, Philippines — The Pasig Regional Trial Court has dismissed the kidnapping and murder cases lodged against Andrea Rosal, daughter of the late New People’s Army spokesperson Gregorio “Ka Roger” Rosal.
Referring to a case filed in 2007, Judge Toribio Ilao Jr. of the Pasig RTC Branch 266 said there was “no basis for her (Rosal’s) inclusion in the indictment for two counts of kidnapping with murder.”
“This court finds that there is no allegation whatsoever that accused Andrea Rosal participated in the abduction and murder of the victims. Neither is there an asseveration that she ordered the kidnapping and killing,” the two-page ruling said.
Rosal’s lawyer, Edre Olalia, told the media that they are “pleased with the dismissal of the kidnapping charges pending in the Pasig court against Andrea Rosal.”
He said they are also hoping for the dismissal of another set of murder charges filed in Mauban, Quezon court.
“How tragic to have Andrea arrested, detained and have lost a baby daughter over false, trumped up and malicious charges which the Pasig correctly court struck down with prejudice,” Olalia said, referring to the controversy surrounding Rosal’s miscarriage last May.
“In righteous indignation, we will continue to assist her in thwarting her persecution and all others similarly victimized as we exhaust all legal means to seek accountability from all those who perpetuate rank injustice especially against the lowly & the underdog,” the lawyer added.
