Court allows daughter of Ka Roger to attend her baby’s wake
MANILA, Philippines—The court on Tuesday granted political prisoner Andrea Rosal a three-hour leave to attend the wake of her newborn daughter but would not let her attend the out-of-town burial.
Judge Toribio Ilao Jr. of the Pasig Regional Trial Court Branch 266 issued the order allowing Rosal to attend baby Diona Andrea’s wake at the Iglesia Filipina Independiente National Cathedral on Taft Avenue, Manila, across from the Philippine General Hospital where she is confined, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Wednesday.
But she cannot attend the funeral in her hometown of Ibaan, Batangas province, at 10 a.m. on Thursday due to her medical condition.
Ilao said he “partially granted” Rosal’s motion, which had sought a three-day leave to attend the wake and burial, after Rosal asked for “human consideration” and despite the prosecution insisting that she was a “high risk” prisoner.
Rosal gave birth last Saturday, May 17.—With Tetch Torres-Tupas, INQUIRER.net
