“IT is important to know the codes most especially when you are already working to avoid conflicts,” TV Patrol Central Visayas anchor Leo Lastimosa said in a forum conducted by the Kapisanan ng Broadkaster ng Pilipinas for the Mass Communication students at St. Theresa’s College audio visual room.
Lastimosa and Jun Tagalog, broadcaster of AM radio dyLA, discussed the Broadcast Ethics with focus broadcast code — article 4 on personal attacks and article 6 on crime and crisis situations.
Care Arcayan, a third year mass communication student from St. Theresa’s College said the found was informative.
“Lastimosa and Tagalog’s sharing of experiences will serve as guide for future media practitioners like us,” she said.
Ruby Fundar, president of mass communications department in St. Theresa’s College, said they were privileged to have a forum on broadcast ethics. She said they planned to have a talk on the corporate world.
“I find the talk relevant. The topic on crime and crisis situation coverage is one of the most intriguing, confusing and complicated aspect of news coverage. It is good to know early as to what extent can we exercise our role as future media practitioners,” Fundar said.
“I suggest that those schools offering mass communication courses should have a copy of this (broadcast code) and disseminate this to students as a guide for their internship,” Lastimosa said. /STC Masscom student Mae Laurice Y. Mercader
