RH bill forum

THE Sidlak Gender Resource Center-7 and the University of the Philippines Cebu Gender and Development office, in cooperation with the Population Commission in Central Visayas (Popcom-7), will sponsor a public forum on the Reproductive Health bill on Sept. 27, from 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., at the UP Cebu conference hall.

The forum is part of Sidlak’s eighth founding anniversary celebration.

Dr. Sylvia Estrada Claudio of the UP Diliman Center for Women Studies and Gabriela partylist Rep. Luzviminda Ilagan are the resource speakers.

Panelists include Popcom-7 Regional Director Bruce Ragas, Dr. Milagros Chan, Orlando Carvajal of the Catholics for RH, representatives of the grassroots women and the students.

Partners of Sidlak from the Cebu City Commission on Women and Family Affairs, local government units, non-government organizations and academic institutions are expected to attend. Those interested to join may call the UP Cebu Gender and Development office at 232-7475.

Economic summit

ECONOMISTS from Central Visayas will converge in Silliman University in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental on Sept. 26 and 27 for the Philippine Economic Society conference.

Mark Garcia, director of the SU office of information and publications, said the conference will focus on a cross-sectoral approach in curbing carbon emissions in line with the theme “Curbing carbon emissions in response to climate change: A corporate social responsibility.”

Topics include “Philippine climate change initiatives” by Mary Ann Lucille Sering, commissioner of the Climate Change Commission; “Greenhouse gas management benefits and success stories” by Divina Chingcuangco, chief of Party of the Climate Change and Clean Energy Project; “Corporate social responsibility: Curbing carbon emissions/rethinking how we think when we do environmental science” by Dr. Ben S. Malayang III, Silliman president and environmental governance specialist.

“Parallel sessions on clean energy and solid waste management will also be conducted for local chief executives, sectoral representatives, economics professors and scholars,” said Garcia.
