Bohol town police chief shot dead

CEBU CITY, Philippines—The police chief of Ubay town, Bohol, was killed on Saturday night in an ambush staged by still unidentified men in Barangay Balintawak, Talibon, Bohol.

The Bohol Provincial Police Office (BPPO), however, had yet to establish the motive in the killing of Chief Insp. George Caña, as of Sunday.

Caña was the second police official who was gunned down in 2014.

Last April, SPO1 Noel Romagos, officer-in-charge of Danao police station, was shot dead by one of the two men on board a motorcycle outside his cousin’s house in Barangay Sta. Fe, Danao town. His killing remains unsolved.

Based on the report by the BPPO, a copy of which was sent to Philippine Daily Inquirer, Caña had just eaten his dinner at the La Fortuna Chicken Lechon Eatery in Barangay San Jose, Talibon town, past 7 p.m. on Saturday and was heading home on board his Isuzu D-max pickup vehicle, when a black Mitsubishi and black Suzuki vehicles blocked his path in Barangay Balintawak, Talibon, 200 meters from his house.

Unidentified assailants disembarked from the vehicles and opened fire at the pick-up. Caña, who was at the driver’s seat, suffered gunshot wounds in the head and different parts of the body.

He was brought to the Garcia Memorial Provincial Hospital in Talibon town but physicians declared him dead on arrival.
