MANILA, Philippines—Surprised by the sudden downpour last night? The rainy season is finally around the corner, the state weather bureau said on Saturday.

In its latest weather outlook, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Adminstratio said the country is transitioning to the rainy season come June.

This is because  the country is experiencing warm and humid conditions with frequent rain showers and thunderstoms in the afternoon or early evening, Pagasa said.

Pagasa added that the wind  over the West Philippine Sea is now moving south and is expected to gradually shift to southwest.

“This event signals the beginning of the rainy season over the western part of the country,” Pagasa said.

Pagasa said clouds are developing over the West Philippine Sea that would be more prevalent and large in scale in the following days.

“It will contribute significantly to the seasonal rain over most areas in the western part of the country,” Pagasa said.

The bureau added that rainy season would officially start early June.

But the full development of the southwest monsoon is expected by mid-June when the country would experience moderate to heavy rains, Pagasa said.
