PNP to deploy 20,000 policemen for school opening

MANILA, Philippines- Ahead of the opening of most schools in June, the Philippine National Police is ready to secure and ensure the safety of the public.

Police Chief Superintendent Reuben Theodore Sindac, spokesperson of the PNP, said they have already set operational guidelines and procedures to be implemented by concerned police units.

Sindac said nearly 20, 000 policemen and 8,000 police assistance desks would be deployed nationwide.

The police chief advised the public especially students to take precaution against street crimes like robbery, snatching, pickpocketing, swindling and drug trafficking.

In Metro Manila, 2,500 policemen would be deployed around the University Belt district of Manila.

Mobile patrols would also be deployed along major routes in the metropolis.

The PNP has also provided safety reminders to prevent crimes and accident in schools.

According to Sindac, parents are advised to have constant communication with the teachers or security guards in the school.

He cautioned students from talking with strangers, wearing jewelry, bringing large amount of money and bearing expensive phones while in the streets.

He said the PNP has conducted Inter-Agency Convergence Meeting with the Department of Education (DepEd) to discuss the common problems encountered during school openings.

The opening of classes for public schools is on June 2 while private schools would be on June 6.

Some universities, meanwhile, have shifted their school opening to August.
