MANILA, Philippines – A ranking executive of a large property developing firm fell to his death from the 16th floor of his condominium unit in Makati City on Wednesday.
Police said Efren Tan, 52, Vice President for Sales of SM Development Corporation, landed on a concrete canopy on the 7th floor of BSA Tower along Legazpi Street, killing him instantly.
Senior Superintendent Manuel Lukban, Makati City Police chief, told INQUIRER.net over the phone that Tan fell head first on the canopy, causing his instant death.
Lukban said the relatives of Tan, who arrived in the scene, identified him as a senior official of the SMDC.
Due to the impact of his fall, Lukban said the police saw the body of Tan had been dismembered, with brain matters splattered on the canopy.
“(The view) was really gruesome,” the Makati police chief said.
Lukban said police have launched a thorough investigation.
The Makati police also ruled out foul play in the incident as there were no signs of forced entry in the unit Tan owned.
Quoting the relatives, the police official said that according to his driver, he looked “balisa” (anxious) as he got off his condominium.
“When we reviewed the CCTV (Closed Circuit Television), the driver was waiting for him on the ground floor when the incident happened,” the police official said.
Tan was brought straight to the morgue in a funeral parlor in Makati City.
Exec colleagues shocked
Meanwhile, Aye Luna, Assistant Vice President for Marketing of SMDC, said the company grieves the tragic passing of Tan.
“We are as shocked to hear about the news and still grieving the untimely demise of our dear colleague,” said in a text message to INQUIRER.net.
When sought for comment on the incident, Luna said she was not in the position to comment on the situation “as this is still being managed by the authorities.”
