Marawi prosecutor shot dead
MANILA, Philippines—A prosecutor from Marawi City was ambushed and died 11:45 a.m. Monday.
The victim was identified as Assistant City Prosecutor Saipal Alawi, 64 years old. His brother, who was driving the Toyota Corolla he was boarding, was also injured.
Marawi City Police Chief Superintendent Al Abner said Alawi died of several gunshot wounds.
The victims came from the office and were on their way home when their vehicle was peppered with bullets.
Abner said they recovered 56 shells of 9mm.
He said the victims’ relatives said the prosecutor has been receiving death threats the past few days.
