Village chief arrested for drug possession
MANILA, Philippines—A local government official was nabbed by anti-narcotic agents and police after he was caught hiding packs of illegal drugs in his Aklan residence.
Isidro Mayor Bune, barangay (village) chairman of Pinamuk-an village, New Washington, Aklan, was found possessing 10 sachets of shabu, or methamphetamine hydrochloride.
Chief Superintendent Josephus Angan, Western Visayas Police regional director, said in a statement Thursday that joint forces of the Aklan Provincial Police and Philippine Drugs Enforcement Agency (PDEA) arrested Bune around 10 a.m. on Tuesday.
Also seized in the operation were P1,000 cash, one brown wallet, and one unit of a smartphone.
The village chief and the seized pieces of evidence are currently under the custody of New Washington Municipal Police Station for proper disposition.
