MANILA, Philippines—A convicted drug lord and owner of a former drug market in Pasig City was rushed to a hospital Tuesday night after falling ill, a police source who requested anonymity said Wednesday.

The source, who cannot be identified because he wasn’t authorized to talk to media, said in a text message that Amin Imam Boratong was diagnosed with coronary artery disease and for having fatty liver. He was brought to Medical City also in Pasig.

Boratong and his second wife, Sheryl Molera Boratong, were convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment in 2009 for operating a P900-million, 2,000-square-meter drug market in Mapayapa Compound in Pasig that came to be known as “shabu (methamphetamine hydrochloride) tiangge”.
