Mother, son trapped inside burning home in Cavite
CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna–A mother and her seven-year-old son died after they were trapped inside their burning house as fire gutted four houses in Dasmariñas City, Cavite early Tuesday.
Senior Supt. Joselito Esquivel, Cavite police director, in a text message identified the victims as Susan Reglos, 37, and her son John Joey, 7.
The fire started at the fatalities’ residence in Barangay (village) Sta. Fe at 3 a.m. and razed three more houses owned by neighbors Gomerzindo Jacob, Amil Reglos and Ruelito Azardon before it was put out about an hour later, said Esquivel.
In a phone interview, Supt. Carlos Barde, Dasmariñas police chief, said the fire quickly spread as all four houses were made of light materials. The other residents, he said, were able to escape.
“The victims could most probably be asleep when the fire broke out,” Barde said.
The Bureau of Fire has not yet determined the cause of the fire, but placed the cost of damage at P2 million.
