QC couple shot dead on way to work

MANILA, Philippines — A couple on their way to work on their motorcycle was gunned down by assailants aboard an Asian utility vehicle on Monday morning in Quezon City.

Neil Sanogal, 43 and his wife Rosela, 44, were killed on the spot following the attack along Himlayan Road in Barangay (village) Pasong Tamo.

Also injured was an 11-year-old girl who was hit by a stray bullet as she was buying breakfast that morning.

The case investigator, Police Officer 3 Marlon dela Vega, said at least three assailants aboard a white Toyota Tamaraw FX vehicle were behind the shooting.

The Sanogals were killed at around 6:30 am by the entrance of the San Labrador Compound, where the couple lived.

Police said the attack seemed to be executed in extreme anger, given the 15 fired caliber .45 shells, six fired caliber .30 shells, and 11 lead slugs.

Also recovered from Rosela’s body were two lead slugs, Dela Vega said.

Neil was about to bring his wife, an accountant, to Antipolo City where she worked.

The couple had just left their house aboard a Yamaha Mio motorcycle when a white Tamaraw FX blocked their path.

Three men armed with long and short firearms alighted from the vehicle and fired at the Sanogals, killing them instantly.

Josa Rey dela Cruz, 11, was about to buy breakfast before going to school when she was hit in the back by a stray bullet from the attack.

A relative rushed the girl to the Quezon City General Hospital for treatment.

Dela Vega said they have been investigating motives for the killing.  Police said the victims’ relatives have claimed that the couple was kind and had no known enemies.
