Kalinga mayor shot, wounded for running over dog

BAGUIO CITY, Philippines — A town mayor in Kalinga province was shot on Saturday night after his vehicle ran over a dog on his way to Tabuk City, the Cordillera Police Office said on Sunday.

Pasil town Mayor James Edduba was shot twice at 7:30 p.m. along Sitio Pinagan, Lucog village in Tabuk, when he alighted from his pick-up truck to check on a dog, which his vehicle had accidentally struck.

Police said Kitkiti Suyam fired at the mayor and his party but investigators have not determined whether he owned the dog.

The mayor was treated for gunshot wounds in the arm and the abdomen at the Kalinga Provincial Hospital in Tabuk City.

Police have launched a manhunt for Suyam.
