MANILA, Philippines – What if Janet Lim-Napoles names lawmakers close to President Benigno Aquino III? It wouldn’t change anything, as far as Malacañang is concerned.
“The symbol of justice of this country is a blind-folded lady carrying the scales of justice and that means there is no fear or favor in the exercise of our responsibility to bring to the bar of justice those involved in the alleged misuse of public funds,” Communications Secretary Herminio Coloma said during Wednesday’s press briefing.
The statement came a day after Napoles gave her “tell-all” testimony to Justice Secretary Leila De Lima. De Lima said the businesswoman spilled the beans on Senators Juan Ponce Enrile, Jose “Jinggoy” Estrada and Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr. But the Justice Secretary declined to reveal the other lawmakers named by Napoles.
“Our focus here is the quest for truth. The President has time and again said that the evidence itself must provide the direction,” Coloma said.
For now, the Department of Justice is withholding information on Napoles’ testimony as it evaluates and validates its claims.
