Police killed, wife hurt in Mandaluyong ambush
MANILA, Philippines–A policeman was killed after motorcycle-riding assailants shot him and his wife while on board a sedan in Mandaluyong City Wednesday morning.
Chief Inspector Elmer Santiago was killed immediately, while his wife Agnes got hurt in an ambush as they plied Talumpong Street in Barangay (village) Malamig in a black Toyota Altis.
The car was reportedly bearing a Philippine National Police Academy (PNPA) commemorative plate number
Chief Superintendent Reuben Theodore Sindac told reporters in a text message that the couple were shot by two unidentified men who sported bonnets and were on board a motorcycle.
The victims were rushed to Polymedic Medical Center Edsa-Mandaluyong, where Santiago was declared dead-on-arrival, while his wife was deemed in a stable condition.
PO2 Jay Segui of the Mandaluyong police said Santiago is placed on “floating status” at Central Luzon police Regional Personnel Holding and Administrative Unit.
