MANILA, Philippines — Senator Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr. strongly denied on Wednesday allegations that he had called and asked a high-ranking National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) official to go easy on Janet Lim-Napoles.

Napoles has been detained for alleged serious detention of her former employee and now “pork barrel” scam whistleblower Benhur Luy.

“Absolutely not true. Napakadali gumawa ng istorya at chismis (It’s very easy to make up stories and rumors),” Revilla said in a statement sent to reporters by his office.

It was Luy’s former legal counsel, Levito Baligod, who made the allegation against the senator in a television interview.

“I do not know what Atty. Baligod’s personal grudge is against me, and I do not understand his motives in concocting fictitious stories to ruin my name,” Revilla said.

“Hindi na dapat paniwalaan ang taong ito na dinispatsa ng kanyang kliyente at ngayon ay nag-aabogado sa ilang mga taong kanya mismong inakusahan. These facts speak for themselves on the character of this person.”

“It seems he is doing anything and everything to be in the limelight and gain publicity,” the senator added.

Luy dumped Baligod, citing the latter’s lack of time to help him with his cases against Napoles, the alleged mastermind of the P10 billion “pork barrel” scam.
