MANILA, Philippines– Two communist rebels were killed and one was injured in a clash on Thursday morning in Negros Oriental, the military said.
Soldiers from the 79th Infantry Battalion were conducting security operations when they encountered the insurgents in Balayong village in Pamplona town at 6:30 a.m., Central Command spokesperson Lieutenant Jim Aris Alagao said.
The soldiers also recovered five M16 rifles.
“We extend our deepest sympathies to the families and friends of those killed,” Alagao said.
The Air Force’s 2nd Division was also placed on standby to support the Army troops.
