Aquino defends Alcala

MANILA, Philippines – Despite everything that has been hurled against Agriculture Secretary Proceso Alcala, President Benigno Aquino III thinks he is doing a good job as head of the Department of Agriculture.

“Siguro binabalanse ko rin sa mga nagawa naman niya (Perhaps I also balance it with the things he has done),” Aquino said at the sidelines of The Pinoy Music Summit in Manila on Wednesday.

He pointed out that the Department of Agriculture (DA) had been able to keep rice prices stable.

“Yung stability ng presyo indicative na mukhang tama ‘yung sinasabi ng DA. So ‘yun po nanggaling sa trabaho rin ni Secretary Alcala (The stability of prices is indicative that the DA was right. That came from Secretary Alcala’s work),” he explained.

Aquino said there was a need to balance things, to realize that while there are accusations against the official, he has also done positive things.

“Tulad ng sino man, palagay ko ho may karapatan siya (doon sa) presumption of innocence until proven guilty (Like everybody else, I think he has the right to presumption of innocence until proven guilty),” he said.
