Abu Sayyaf frees abducted teacher in Sulu

MANILA, Philippines – Less than a day after the abduction, the Abu Sayyaf released its captive Thursday.

School teacher Alrashid Jahang of Taglibi Elementary School in Barangay (village) Kadday Mamallam, Patikul, Sulu was freed at around 9 a.m.

Captain Ryan Lacuesta, civil-military operations officer of the 2nd Marine Brigade, confirmed the release after Jahang was captured in Sitio (sub-village) Baunoh, Baragay Liang Wednesday 4 p.m.

“We have no reports that ransom exchanged hands,” Lacuesta said.

“The release was made possible through negotiations by the local government unit and the victim’s relatives.”

Lacuesta added that the abductors have relatives in the area.

Jahang will be brought to the Marine headquarters in Camp Teodulfo Bautista at Barangay Busbus, Jolo for medical checks.
