MANILA, Philippines —Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago has formally asked the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) if she or her office has received funds from the controversial Disbursement Acceleration Program (DAP).
“This is to respectfully request information on whether my office or I have received DAP funds (regardless of nomenclature) at any time during this administration, whether directly to my office or indirectly through the Senate,” Santiago said in her letter to DBM Secretary Florencio Abad on Wednesday.
The DAP has been marred with controversy following Senator Jose “Jinggoy” Estrada’s revelation that additional DAP funds were given to senators who voted to impeach then Chief Justice Renato Corona.
Another media report said that billions of DAP funds were also released not only to senators but also to members of the House of Representatives before, during and after Corona’s impeachment in 2012.
