Labor leader’s son shot dead in Cebu

CEBU CITY, Philippines—A son of a labor leader was shot dead on Wednesday by a lone gunman in a case that the labor leader said perplexed him because the victim had no known enemies.

Police said Richard Seno, 50, died on the spot after he was shot in the head on the second floor of a three-story apartment, which the Senos own, at the corner of Urgelio and Tambis Streets in Barangay (village) Sambag here.

Richard is the son of lawyer Cecilio Seno, 91, vice chair of Associated Labor Union-Trade Union Congress of the Philippines and president of Vimcontu Broadcasting Corp., which owns radio station dyLA.

The elder Seno said he had no idea why his son was killed because the victim had no known enemies.

His son managed the family’s apartments and a resort in Liloan town, northern Cebu province, said Cecilio.

A witness told police that a man had asked if there was a vacant unit in the apartment building owned by the Senos.

The witness said she told the man that a unit on the third floor was vacant and for rent, and informed the apartment’s caretaker about the inquiry.

Richard arrived and talked with the unidentified man who had a companion waiting on a motorcycle. Richard guided the unidentified man to the third floor.
