Reds raid police station in Samar town; 1 killed

TACLOBAN CITY, Leyte — A communist rebel was killed while a still undetermined number of government firearms and a computer were taken from a police station about 5 a.m. yesterday when about 50 New People’s Army (NPA) members raided the station in Hinabangan town, Samar.

Six policemen on duty, however, fought back when the rebels barged into the police station, said Senior Supt. Elizar Egloso, spokesperson of the Police Regional Office in Eastern Visayas.

A rebel was killed during the 30-minute gunfight that ensued, he said.

The communist rebels retreated when members of the Philippine Army arrived to help the policemen.

But the rebels managed to flee with firearms and a computer from the police station. /INQUIRER
