Authorities in Manila warned of heavy traffic and drew up a rerouting scheme for today’s “Worldwide Walk for Yolanda Victims,” an outreach project of the Iglesia ni Cristo (INC).

In an advisory Friday, the Manila District Traffic Enforcement Unit said the north and southbound lanes of Roxas Boulevard from Buendia to Anda Circle will be closed to vehicular traffic from 12 midnight on Friday to 6 p.m. on Saturday.

Also to be closed are the east and west bound lanes of P. Burgos from Palacio Street to Roxas Boulevard, and the east and westbound lanes of T. M. Kalaw from M. H. del Pilar to Roxas Boulevard. Vehicles will also be barred from using westbound lane of Quirino Avenue from Adriatico to Mabini, and from M. H. del Pilar to Roxas Boulevard. A stretch of P. Ocampo from Mabini to Roxas Boulevard will also be closed.

The traffic office advised motorists coming from the northern part of the city and planning to use the southbound lane of Roxas Boulevard to turn at Anda Circle and go straight to A. Soriano Street in Intramuros. From there, they can turn right to Magallanes Drive, right to P. Burgos then straight to Taft Avenue. They can then turn left to President Quirino, right to President Osmeña and on to their destination.

For vehicles coming from the southern part of Manila which are planning to use the northbound lane of Roxas Boulevard, they can turn right to Buendia, left to Taft Avenue, then to their point of destination.

Worldwide Walk participants are expected to assemble at the CCP Complex in Pasay City. In a statement, the INC said the project was aimed at raising funds for the construction of new homes for families affected by Supertyphoon “Yolanda” in Tacloban City and Leyte province last year. Around 60 houses have been built so far with the help of the religious group. Maricar B. Brizuela
