Israel targets Gaza militant with airstrike

JERUSALEM—The Israeli military says it has carried out an airstrike on a Palestinian militant in the Gaza Strip. A Gaza health official says the targeted man was critically wounded.

The military says it targeted Abdallah Kharti on Sunday. It says he is affiliated with the Popular Resistance Committees militant group, and planned and carried out numerous rocket attacks on Israel.

The Popular Resistance Committees group has not commented on the wounded man’s affiliation.

Gaza health ministry spokesman Ashraf al-Kidra says Kharti is in critical condition. He did not know if the man was part of any group.

According to the Israeli military, 33 rockets have been launched from Gaza toward Israel since the beginning of the year.
