‘Agaton’ lingers; Signal No.1 still up in 6 areas

MANILA, Philippines—Tropical depression “Agaton” will continue to bring rains in Mindanao as it moved east southeast slowly, the state weather bureau said Monday.

Based on the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration’s forecast, Agaton will linger in the country until Thursday.

Signal No. 1 (30-60 kph winds in at least 36 hours) was hoisted in the following areas:

“Agaton” packed maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour near the center and forecast to move west southwest at 5 kph.

The tropical depression was last observed 230 kilometers southeast of Hinatuan in Surigao del Sur or 230 kilometers east of Davao City. Moderate to heavy rains were forecast over Northern Mindanao and the rest of Caraga region.

By Thursday, it was forecast 140 kilometers southwest of General Santos City.

Davao region and the provinces of Agusan Del Sur and Surigao Del Sur will have rains with gusty winds with moderate to rough seas, Pagasa’s forecast said.

Northern Mindanao and the rest of Caraga will experience cloudy skies with moderate to occasionally heavy rains and thunderstorms which may trigger flashfloods and landslides.

Meanwhile, Visayas and the rest of Mindanao will be cloudy with light to moderate rains and thunderstorms.
Cagayan Valley, Bicol Region and Palawan will have cloudy skies with light rains. Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated light rains.
