IT’S all systems go for the 2014 Cebu City beach volleyball tournament after organizers tabbed Jan. 25 as the date of the event despite the absence of schedules for sponsored Sinulog sports.
Eric Lecain, the American beach volleyball consultant of the Philippine Sports Commission, informed CDN via text that the tournament will be held at the PSC beach volleyball courts at Fort San Pedro.
The meet is expected to be participated in by Cebu’s top beach volleyball players coming from the different colleges and universities in the city led by reigning Cebu Schools Athletics Foundation (Cesafi) beach volleyball tournament men’s champion, University of the Visayas (UV) Green Lancers bannered by Mike Abria and Mark Anthony Fernandez and the reigning women’s titleholder Southwestern University (SWU) Lady Cobras headlined by Tanjay City, Negros Oriental-native Floremel Rodriguez and Therese Rae Ramas.
The last beach volleyball tournament sponsored by the PSC was the Women’s Beach Volleyball League last Nov. 26, 2013 at the Fort San Pedro sand court which drew 220 spikers from the barangays, public schools and the private sector. /Correspondent JADE S. VIOLETA
