MANILA, Philippines – Devotees failed to divert the procession of the Black Nazarene to the aging MacArthur Bridge as authorities were able to convince them to stick to the planned route.

Police posted at the Escolta area said that several container vans placed at the Philippine Postal office at Liwasang Bonifacio were removed by some devotees to let the procession to cross the bridge.

But Manila Vice Mayor Isko Moreno managed to calm down and convince the devotees that the corroded bridge is too weak.

The procession is now proceeding towards Jones Bridge.
