Winds from Siberia to bring more clouds, rain

MANILA, Philippines — Cold winds from Siberia continue to blow into Luzon, bringing clouds and light rains to most of the island, including Metro Manila, state weather forecasters said.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said the northeast monsoon, locally called “hanging amihan,” remained the dominant weather system in Luzon.
On the other hand, the trough, or extension, of a low-pressure area in the Pacific was affecting Mindanao, which is spawning light to moderate rain showers and thunderstorms in Visayas and Mindanao, it added.
“Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains,” Pagasa said.
Pagasa said moderate to strong winds blowing from the northeast will prevail over the eastern sections of Southern Luzon and the Visayas and the coastal waters in these areas will be moderate to rough.
Elsewhere, winds will be light to moderate coming from the northeast with slight to moderate seas, it said.
Pagasa also warned of strong to gale-force winds on the eastern seaboards of Southern Luzon and Visayas, covering the provinces of Camarines and Catanduanes, the eastern coasts of Albay and Sorsogon, Quezon, including Polillo Island, Samar, and Leyte.
“Fishing boats and other small seacraft are advised not to venture out into the sea while larger sea vessels are alerted to big waves,” reaching heights of 3.4 to 4.5 meters, it said.
