Recto Avenue, other key streets in Manila to be closed for ‘Salubong’

MANILA, Philippines – Several streets in the City of Manila will be closed to give way for Manila’s “Salubong 2014 Countdown ng Masa.”

From 2 p.m. of Dec. 31, 2013 to 1 a.m. of January 1, 2014, portions Claro M. Recto Avenue at the corners of Jose Abad Santos Avenue, Ylaya and portions of Soler streets up to Reina Regente will be closed.

In a post on his twitter account, Vice Mayor Isko Moreno suggested alternate routes:

  • All vehicles using C.M. Recto going to Divisoria/Tutuban shall turn right to Jose Abad Santos to point of destination;
  • All vehicles via Jose Abad  Santos going to Divisoria/Tutuban area shall go straight to Reina Regente to point of destination;
  • All vehicles from Reina Regente going to Divisoria/Tutuban shall go straight to point of destination;
  • All vehicles coming from Juan Luna going to Divisoria/Tutuban area shall turn right to Sta. Elena to point of destination.

On the other hand, aside from parking areas in Tutuban Mall, 999 Mall and 168 mall, the stretch of Dagupan from Moriones to Claro M. Recto shall be made an additional parking area.

Former President, now Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada will lead the Salubong which will start at 6 p.m. to be highlighted by a 15-minute fireworks display. Celebrities were also invited and the Manila City band will also perform.

There will also be a Battle of the Bands and “Divisoria Got Talent.” Food trucks, face painters, photo booths will also be available.
