Mandaue hands aid to northern Cebu, Leyte

MANDAUE City officials yesterday visited seven towns and one city in northern Cebu to deliver financial assistance.

Mayor Jonas Cortes led the city’s delegation that gave to Sogod (P300,000), Borbon (P500,000), Tabogon (P300,000), Bogo City (P600,000), Medellin (P400,000), San Remigio (P400,000) and Tabuelan. Bantayan will get P500,000 while Sta. Fe and Madridejos will get P300,000 each.

The mayors of these local government units received the amount, except for Sogod which was received by the vice mayor.

The Mandaue City Council had approved the allocation of P8.2 million to help northern Cebu in their rebuilding efforts. It has also allocated P2.3 million for Leyte.

The city will also give P600,000 each to the cities of  Tacloban and Ormoc, P250,000 each for the towns of Albuera and Alang-Alang, and Palo, Isabel and Canangga will receive P300,000 each.

These eastern Visayas areas will receive their financial aid by January.

Cortes was accompanied by Vice Mayor Glenn Bercede, some councilors, the city secretary,   and treasurer.

Mandaue’s officials are scheduled to visit the three-town island of Bantayan, as well as the Camotes group of islands, before the end of the year.

Cortes said this is the city’s way of expressing concern for the areas that have suffered because of the supertyphoon.
