BATANGAS CITY, Philippines — A barangay (village) chairman of Nasugbu town in Batangas was shot dead by an unidentified gunman early Sunday evening, police said Monday.

Enrique Valencia, village head of Poblacion 4, was standing in front of the village hall at around 6 p.m. when the lone gunman approached and shot him, said Police Officer 2 Ramon Sale, case investigator.

Valencia was brought to Apacible Memorial Hospital in Nasugbu but he died at around 9 p.m. due to bullet wounds in the back.

Sale said they were still trying to identify the killers and determine the motive for the killing, as of Monday.  He, however, said they got hold of a witness who could provide details for the artist’s sketch of the gunman.
