MANILA, Philippines – Seven civilian informants received P4.3-million cash reward for providing information that led to the arrest of drug personalities and confiscation of illegal drugs, a Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency official said Monday.
PDEA Director General Undersecretary Arturo Cacdac Jr. said the informants—identified through their codenames as Segul, Mac-mac, Balik Loob, Ebok, Coca, Cold Ice and Jows—received their share of the cash reward at the PDEA National Headquarters in Quezon City under its Operation Private Eye or OPE.
OPE, Cacdac said, is a reward and incentive scheme of PDEA designed to encourage private citizens to report any suspected illegal drug activities in their community.
Police said “Jows” got the biggest share amounting to P1,556,995.63 for the information he gave that led to the seizure of 36.7 kilos of methamphetamine hydrochloride, or shabu, and the arrest of a Chinese national and his Filipino accomplice last November 29 in Mexico, Pampanga.
“The increasing reports that PDEA is receiving, particularly through our OPE, is a positive indication that we enjoy the trust and confidence of the public. Rest assured that PDEA shall strive harder to sustain that confidence,” Cacdac said, stressing the importance of the public’s active participation in the successful implementation of the national anti-drug campaign.
Last week, 22 civilian informants also received over P12.9 million in cash rewards also under OPE.
