MANILA, Philippines –Senate President Franklin Drilon appealed for “ceasefire” on Thursday, a day  after his two warring colleagues  traded  accusations in a televised session of the chamber.

“Nalulungkot po ako sa nangyari,” Drilon said in a radio interview, referring to the word war between Senators Juan Ponce Enrile and Miriam Defensor-Santiago.

“Siguro naman ngayon po ay nailabas na ang init ng ulo, baka sakali after a little while, mapakiusapan ang dalawa na ceasefire na muna.”

(Maybe now that they have ventilated their anger, maybe after a little while, we can appeal to both to have a ceasefire.)

“Pasko naman ngayon, kalma na muna. Hindi rin naman tanggap ng bayan ang ganyang mga away-away, lalo na sa panahon ngayon,” he said.

It’s Christmas anyway, we should settle down.  This kind of mudslinging, especially at this time is now acceptable to our countrymen.)

Drilon hopes that this Christmas, there would be a “cooling period” so when New Year comes, he could try to talk to both Enrile and Santiago.

“Sabi ko nga, nailabas na nila Senator Johnny at Senator Miriam ang sama ng loob. Pasko ngayon may cool period. Baka pagbalik natin sa Bagong Taon, malamig na ang panahon, duon natin susubukan na pag-usapin ulit ang ating dalawang kasamahan,” he said.

(As I said, Senators Johnny and Miriam have already release their emotions. It’s Christmas now, there’s a cooling period. Maybe when we return next year, we can try to talk to both of them.)
