Guard found dead
THE body of a security guard was found shortly after midnight Sunday inside a restroom at the 10-story condominium he was guarding on M. H. del Pilar Street in Manila. Tirso Bannacas, 44, an employee of IRA General Security Services Inc., was discovered by a coworker. Senior Police Officer 2 Edgardo Ko, of the Manila Police District homicide section, said the victim’s body was discovered around 12:20 a.m. Monday. Ko pointed out that Bannacas’ reliever, Ronald Maparangalan, had gone to the condominium to relieve him. The case investigator observed no external injury on the security guard’s body, which was taken to St. Yvan funeral parlor for autopsy and safekeeping.—Jeannette I. Andrade
Plant reliability confab
WITH the Philippines as the first host country in the Asian region, the Plant Reliability Asia Conference 2011 was successfully held recently with over 500 participants attending the two-day event at the SMX Convention Center in Pasay City. This year’s conference highlighted the theme “Drive Your Plant to Greater Profits,” which centered on helping Asian and global companies reach business success through the latest knowledge and innovative ideas in plant operations. Among the speakers were Indian Oil Corp. Ltd. senior maintenance manager Trinath Sahoo and Focuslab Ltd., Thailand laboratory manager Andy Sitton.
