MANILA, Philippines—The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council on Monday created Task Force Normalization for Tacloban, Leyte as the city entered the recovery stage roughly two weeks after super typhoon”Yolanda” (international name: Haiyan).
“Kapag sinabi nating normalization stage, nagkakaroon na ng business activity . . . nagkakaroon na ng market transactions,” NDRRMC chairman Eduardo del Rosario said in a press conference.
In Tacloban, Del Rosario said the Land Bank of the Philippines is set to resume its operations on Thursday.
He said they are confident that other banking institutions will also open within the week.
“Nagkakaroon na ng mga market transactions. Yung pera mo may value na unlike before na yung pera mo walang value kasi nga hindi ka makabili ng goods and services,” Del Rosario added.
The NDRRMC official also reported that the Tacloban water district has also resumed with its normal operations
Highways in Tacloban can also now accommodate two-way traffic.
An earlier report of Radyo Inquirer 990AM said that businesses in the city have resumed operations but for a limited time only.
“Banks, supermarkets and malls are open and in operation,” Philippine Daily Inquirer correspondent Maricar Cinco said in her report over the radio.
“When you go around, you will see throngs of people lining up outside money transfer outlets,” Cinco added. With reports from Bong Lozada, Inquirer.net.
