MANILA, Philippines — Overcast skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms are expected to continue in Mindanao, Eastern Visayas and Palawan on Friday due to the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ), the state weather bureau said.

“Rainy weather is still expected in the entire Mindanao, in Palawan and parts of Visayas due to the intertropical convergence zone,” said Grace Castañeda, weather specialist of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa), said in a public weather forecast.

On the other hand, Castañeda said generally fair weather with partly cloudy to cloudy skies are seen in Metro Manila and the rest of the country.

No low-pressure area is seen to form or enter the Philippine area of responsibility, but Castañeda said it could not be ruled out since the ITCZ, where the trade winds from the northern and southern hemispheres converge, remains active.

“Because the ITCZ is active in parts of Mindanao, we are not ruling out the possibility of a circulation or a low-pressure area forming in the eastern part of Mindanao,” she said.

Meanwhile, Pagasa did not raise a gale warning in any seaboards nationwide. /das
