Storm signals lowered as Vinta moves away from PH

MANILA, Philippines—Storm signals were lowered in many areas of Northern Luzon as typhoon Vinta (international name Krosa) continued to move away from the country, the state weather bureau said Friday.

As of 11 .am., only four areas remained with storm signals, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said.

Signal No. 1 was raised over the northern provinces of Ilocos Norte, Apayao, Abra, and Ilocos Sur.

Vinta made landfall in Sta. Ana, Cagayan on Thursday afternoon. It was forecast to leave the Philippine area of responsibility by Friday afternoon.

The typhoon packed maximum sustained winds of 130 kilometers per hour near the center and gusts of up to 160 kph. It was last located 190 kilometers west northwest of Laoag City.

It was forecast to move west northwest at 22 kph.

Sea travel is still risky over the northern and western seaboards of Northern Luzon and over the western seaboard of Central Luzon, Pagasa said.
