Barangay poll bet tagged in Negros Occident shooting that killed 2

BACOLOD CITY, Philippines — Two persons were killed in a shooting at around 6 a.m Monday that marred the elections in Barangay (village) Poblacion, Toboso town, Negros Occidental.

Inspector Danilo Zuniega, Toboso police chief, identified the fatalities as Lione Belleza and Brian Bacordo. Belleza died on the spot while Bacordo was rushed to a hospital in Escalante City, Negros Occidental, where he was declared dead on arrival. (The police corrected its earlier report identifying Bacordo as the injured and Rey Erasan as the second man killed.)

Lione Belleza and Brian Bacordo were riding a motorcycle in Purok Kinalumsan, Barangay Poblacion, Toboso town, when they were fired upon by gummen in the early morning attack.

According to the blotter report from Lizaran, witness Daniel Sebillo, who was riding a motorcycle behind the victims, pointed at Gary Enriquez, Regie Palarca, Toto Kaskas, Toto Maton and Tata Walter as the suspects in the shooting.

Enriquez is a candidate for barangay captain of Poblacion, Toboso.

The suspects remain at large, said Zuniega.
