Maguindanao public school torched
COTABATO CITY, Philippines – Unidentified armed men torched early Monday, a public school in Maguindanao, which has been designated as one of the voting centers in the balloting on Monday (Oct. 28).
Colonel Dickson Hermoso, 6th Infantry Divison spokesperson, said about five men poured gasoline around the 4-classroom Denganen Elementary School in Buldon, Maguindanao and set it on fire at about 4 a.m.
“The school was razed,” Hermoso said, adding that election officials said the balloting on Monday (October 28) would push through in the school ground using makeshift voting precincts.
Hermoso said the attack could be the handiwork of aspirants who thought they had no chances of winning.
Additional Army personnel were also sent to Buldon to help secure the village poll.
