Death toll: 11 in Cebu

The death toll in Cebu city and province reached 11, based on confirmed reports. More than 80 sustained injuries.

Five persons were killed in Cebu city .

In Pasil Fish Port, vendors, laborers and workers scampered when the building shook and concrete slabs of the roof fell.

The four fatalities were spice vendor Leona Cabarubbias, 66; Randy Bondoc, 46; laborer Albert Sembrano, 45, and a certain Roger in his 40s.

Shaiza Mia Petiluna was accompanying her parents who were PPP beneficiaries chosen as the poorest in the community. More than 20 others fainted as the crowd rushed out of the auditorium, police said.

A similar scene happened in Toledo City, when 4Ps beneficiaries rushed out of the Barba Sports Complex and left 20 injured.

The tremors caused landslides in southern towns of Aloguinsan and Argao.

An elderly woman in Ronda town was crushed by debris that fell from her house. Lumeran Alcazarin, 80, was having breakfast outside her shanty when a rock from the mountain fell and killed her on the spot.

In Mandaue city, two people were killled in the public market.

A 42-year-old meat stall vendor, Jorenda Casul, was killed when part of a glass wall fell on her head. She was among those who ran out of the market building and was at the entrance, when the debris fell.

At least 35 injured people were brought to the hospital.

In Talisay city, one died and three were injured on the road in a motor vehicle accident after the driver lost his balance during the earthquake.

Two government hospitals in Cebu City were abandoned temporarily while the building’s stability is being inspected.

Patients of Cebu City Medical Center were evacuated and temporarily housed at the Pahina Central Sports Complex. Patients of the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center (VSMMC) were also evacuated.

The fifth floor of the Cebu Doctors Hospital caught fire. Their patients and doctors immediately evacuated to the nearby Cebu Doctors Gym.
