LUCENA CITY, Philippines – A policemen was killed when a passenger jeepney overtaking another vehicle sideswiped the officer’s motorcycle in Tayabas City on Thursday night, police said Friday.
Senior Police Officer 1 Felicito P. Labitigan, Tayabas police investigator, identified the victim as PO3 Erasti Romero, 39, who was assigned to Tayabas police station.
The passenger jeepney driven by Ronaldo Diaz was overtaking another vehicle on the national highway in the village of Dapdap at around 9 p.m. when it sideswiped the motorcycle driven by Romero which was running in opposite direction, Labitigan said.
Romero was thrown off the motorcycle and suffered multiple injuries. His crash helmet was crushed. He was rushed by villagers to the Tayabas Community Hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
Diaz is now detained in the Tayabas jail, said Labitigan.
