Romualdez urges public to ‘rise above differences’ on Christmas

MANILA, Philippines — Speaker Martin Romualdez on Christmas Eve called on Filipinos to “rise above differences” to foster unity and compassion while reflecting on the challenges the country faced this year, including calamities and “political noise.”

Romualdez made the pronouncement as the country gears up for the celebration of Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, two of the biggest celebrations in the country.

“Christmas reminds us of what truly matters—faith, family, and compassion. It is a time to rise above our differences and focus on the shared values that make us one people,” Romualdez said in a statement.

“Ang tunay na diwa ng Pasko ay hindi nasusukat sa materyal na bagay kundi sa pagbibigay ng pag-asa, pagmamahal, at pagkakaisa,” he added.

(The true spirit of Christmas is not measured by material things but by giving hope, love, and unity.)

Romualdez then told the public to take a moment to remember the various challenges the country faced and then to take joy in keeping resilience.

“From devastating typhoons and calamities that tested our resilience to the political noise and conflicts that sought to divide us, the Filipino spirit of unity, compassion, and faith has remained steadfast,” Romualdez said.

The Speaker noted how despite the loss and hardship experienced after successive calamities, Filipinos still witnessed the countless acts of kindness that strengthened the community.

He then urged the public to heed the Christmas spirit’s call to share blessings with one another, all while being grateful for all that they have received.

“As we prepare to welcome the New Year, let us hold onto the promise of a brighter future. Sa ating pagkakaisa at pagtutulungan, makakamtan natin ang mas maayos, mas maunlad, at mas mapayapang Pilipinas,” said Romualdez.

(With our unity and cooperation, we can achieve a more harmonious, more prosperous, and more peaceful Philippines.)
