MANILA, Philippines — The entire stretch of EDSA is now passable, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority said Wednesday night.
Joel Waje of MMDA-Metrobase said both directions of EDSA along F.B. Harrison are now open to motorists after authorities ordered a full stop in the flow of traffic while bomb experts were checking on the bag that landed at the roof of a passenger bus at around 5 p.m.
Due to the traffic gridlock, Waje said the tail end of traffic at the northbound lane reached Kamuning, while traffic at the other bound was from Buendia to Ortigas.
“As of 9:28 PM NEGATIVE Bomb at Edsa FB Harrison, Edsa FB Harrison is now open to traffic,” MMDA said in a Twitter post.
In a radio interview, Police Senior Superintendent Rodolfo Llorca, Pasay police chief, earlier said they that based on the X-ray result of the bag, a battery and a wire were seen and later recovered, but added that there weren’t any triggering device found.
“Sa bomba dapat kumpleto [In a bomb all parts should be present],” he said, and noted that the battery found was just like the usual AA battery.
“Ninety percent not a bomb,” Llorca said.
The statement was made roughly four hours since the incident was reported to authorities.
Llorca earlier said incidents which concern explosives should be dealt with patience.
“Kailangan huwag kang mainip. Lahat ng option pinag-aaralan kasi bomba yan e [We shouldn’t be impatient. We need to study all options],” Llorca said.
