‘Mina’ leaves P1.1-B in damages to crops, infrastructure–NDRRMC

MANILA, Philippines – Estimated damages to infrastructure and agriculture due to Typhoon “Mina” (International name: Nanmadol) has reached P1.108 billion, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said Tuesday.

In its latest situation report, the NDRRMC said that as of 6 a.m., damage to agriculture was estimated at P1.056 billion in the provinces of Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, Cagayan, Isabela, Nueva Vizcaya, Biliran, Abra, Apayao, Benguet, Kalinga and Mt. Province.

Not included yet are the damages in Region 6 (Western Visayas). In Iloilo alone, more or less five hectares of rice lands were damaged in the villages of Ambarihon, Buenavista and Batga in Tubungan town, Iloilo, the NDRRMC said.

Meanwhile, damages to infrastructure like roads, bridges and school buildings were estimated at P51.032 million in the provinces of Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, Abra, Apayao, Benguet, Kalinga and Mt. Province.

Also, a total of 1,316 houses were damaged in regions 1, 2, 6 and CAR, the NDRRMC said.

As of 6a.m. Tuesday, eight bridges and 30 roads remain closed to traffic due to various major and minor landslide, damages and flooding incidents in Regions 1, 2, 6, NCR and CAR, the state-run disaster management council said.

Mina, who made landfall in Northern Cagayan over the weekend, left Philippine territory late Monday., and was headed towards the direction of Taiwan the NDRRMC said quoting the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical Astronomical Services Administration.
