CBM tankers bag 42 golds in Speedo G-League Leg 2

CEBU BLUE Marlins (CBM) Swimming Club dominated the 2013 Speedo G-League Long Course Swimming Visayas Leg 2 held at the Cebu City Sports Center’s (CCSC) aquatic center.

CBM finished the one-day competition with 42 gold medals, 15 silvers and 12 bronze medals to finish with a total of 751 points, 402 from the girls team and 349 from the boys.

With this development, CBM has now conquered two legs of this prestigious swimming meet after it also dominated the first leg held in Iloilo last Aug. 25.

Leading the gold haulers for CBM were Val Andrei Chiu, Jay Clifford Fernandez and Trina Caneda, who finished with five gold medals each.

Chiu dominated the 12-years below division by winning the 200-meter freestyle, 200m breast stroke, 50m freestyle, 100m back stroke and the 1,500m freestyle events. Fernandez made waves in the 18-years below bracket after topping the 200m freestyle, 50m butterfly, 200m breast stroke, 50m freestyle and the 1,500m freestyle events. Caneda, meanwhile, was relentless in the 17-years below category as she won in the 50m butterfly, 200m breast stroke, 50m freestyle, 200m freestyle and the 100m back stroke events.

Jehaosh Garrido, Michael Ichiro Kong and Romilyn Nina Ignacio added to CBM’s medal haul as they won four gold medals each. CBM also topped the 200m freestyle relays both in the boys and girls side of the 11-years below bracket. /Correspondent dale rosal
