1 killed, 8 injured as scaffolding in hospital construction collapses

MANILA, Philippines – One person was killed and eight others were injured when scaffolding from the ongoing construction of a hospital in Paranaque City collapsed Wednesday, police said.

Hernan Sebador of Paranaque City police said the incident happened at around 8:30 a.m. when the scaffolding being used for the construction of the Premier Medical Center collapsed.

Initial reports reaching the police station said eight were injured, but a radio report earlier said 15 were hurt.

The radio report also identified the fatality as Jimmy Remonde.

Cherina Canoy, radio operator of Barangay (village) San Dionisio where the hospital is located, said the victims were construction workers, but said that the circumstances of the accident were still unclear.

Canoy said six people were initially rushed to Olivarez Hospital and Paranaque Community Hospital.

“One was confirmed dead,” Canoy said.
